Room Accessibility

Kalamazoo College uses the Book a Room system powered by EMS for the campus community to make room reservations, view room availability, and more. Accessible room features can be found within the system under “Locations” on the Facilities Calendar. Please note that the Book a Room system does not include information regarding accessibility of approach and entrance or parking. What’s Available?

Wheelchair Accessibility

Classroom/room doorway width is a minimum of 32 inches; doorway maneuvering clearance; vertical threshold no more than ¼ inch high; carpets no higher than ½ inch and securely attached; light and tech switches no higher than 48 inches above the floor; enough space for 360-degree turn; at least one table or desk measures between 28 and 34 inches high with at least 24 inches of knee clearance.

Furniture Environment Accessibility

Furniture, including chairs and tables, may be easily moved; there are chairs and other seating with and without arms and may include sensory seating; height adjustable podiums; AV capabilities from the accessible podium; offers clear line of sight for accessible seating; not all seats are attached to tables; presentation screens are viewable from all areas of the room.

Technology Accessibility

The “Features” tab for each room lists the technology within that room and may include at least one of the following: Computer, Windows; Data Projector, Mounted; DVD / VHS Player; Guest Laptop (or iPad) Input Screen, Motorized Screen, White/ Dry Erase Board.

Additional Requests

For requested accessibility not listed in EMS, faculty or staff should contact Human Resources at hr@kzoo.edu or 269.337.7225 to request disability-related accommodations, such as room reassignments, classroom accessible furniture, assistive listening devices, ASL, and assistive technology.
